What would be the most amateurish and embarrassing way you could think of for the President of the United States to make an announcement to the American people regarding a new Executive Order with major implications regarding the war on terror and the security of all Americans?
Here is a hint. Imagine a Saturday Night Live skit where the President is making this announcement and suddenly realizes he doesn't really understand the details or gravity of the Executive Order and has not worked with his staff before signing the EO to actually think it through and know how it will be carried out. What would he do?
Well he would start asking his lawyer questions as he is signing such as, uh, yes there may be some of these people who are dangerous that other countries are not going to take..... uh, what are we going to do with these folks?
And the lawyer says, we are going to work out a process to handle that.
And the President says to the lawyer, btw, are we going to need another EO for the process? And the lawyer says no.
Then the lawyer reminds the President that they will develop specific instructions to make sure the evil US military men and women don't "torture" any of these poor and probably innocent terrorist suspects in the future.
And the President says, yes that's right, we're going to have strict procedures for the military on this....and implies...no torture under my watch.... I'm a really nice guy and if we are nice to these terrorists why they will be nice to us....may even stop chopping off innocent peoples head after they see our example of how nice we are to our prisoners.
It would be comical, but nobody would believe the President could be such an airhead as to get on national television and basically tell the public that he is signing executive orders of great national implications without even doing the staff work to know what he is really doing. But that is exactly what our new President did today.
In addition, of course he is in a rush to show the world how nice we are by closing Gitmo and making sure we don't "torture" any of these nice people any more by pooring water on them or making them uncomfortable in any way. The evil men of this world are laughing at this foolishness.
Gitmo was better for terrorists than many prisons in the US are for American citizens. And if you had to go to jail anywhere in the world, how many places would you choose ahead of the US?
The idea that the rest of the world has these wonderful prisons that are so much nicer than Gitmo and they are all looking down on the US because we treat prisoners so brutally while they treat prisoners so nice is again a fantasy of fools.
Much of the crucial information we obtained that helped us understand how the terrorists networks are operating and current plans, such as the plan to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge, was obtained through waterboarding. Once they realize we will not make them uncomfortable in any way to get information how willing do you think they will be to talk after capture?
And by the way, if waterboarding is really torture why do you think we actually put some of our own people through this for training purposes? Tough interrogation technique? You bet. Makes them real uncomfortable and willing to talk? For many it does.
No, real torture is what Hussein did. He cut off hands, he gouged out eyes, he cut out tongues, he pushed people off buildings and put some people into farm equipment so they would die by shredding. That is torture.... you may have forgotten about all the Mass Graves we found that he used to bury the remains of the citizens of his country that he even suspected crossed him in any way.
My guess is we will pay the price with additional terrorist attacks in the US as soon as the evil men figure out that Obama is actually as gullible as he appears to be. So we shall see how many innocent Americans lose their lives and how many millions of dollars it costs us because we want to prove just how nice we can be to those who are captured on the battlefied trying to kill our soldiers. But the American people have spoken and we will get what the majority asked for as this is simply how the system works.
